The belief that the "Only True God is the Father in heaven, the Almighty, the creator of all things", is the belief of "the people of God" since the ancient time of Abraham, and the prophets, and continued to the time of Jesus and His Apostles in the first century of the Christian era. Thus, the God of Patriarch Abraham and the Prophets is the absolutely the same God of the Lord Jesus Christ and His Apostles (Lesson-2L).

But, the vast majority of professing Christians of today who belong to the predominant religions, believe in the Trinity. Trinitarians believe that God changed to a Man in the person of Jesus. They believe that Jesus, who is the non-created second person of the triune God, took on a human body and nature and became both man and God (Lesson-3C.1). They argue that God can change to a man because nothing impossible for Him.

Let us continue our study of the scriptures so we may come to know the truth behind the belief that God changed to a man or God-man.

2M.1   During the Old Testament times, what did the Lord God declare about Himself, to the descendants of Jacob?

In Malachi 3:6-7, these are written:

6Descendants of Jacob, I am the LORD All-Powerful, and I never change. That's why you haven't been wiped out, 7even though you have ignored and disobeyed my laws ever since the time of your ancestors. But if you return to me, I will return to you.  And yet you ask, "How can we return?"  (CEV)

The all powerful Lord declared "I never change".

2M.2   Why would the Lord God never Change?

In Numbers 23:19, this is written:

"God is not a man, that He should lie, nor a son of man, that He should repent. Has He said, and will He not do it? Or has He spoken, and will He not make it good? (NKJV)

The same verse in another version of the Bible:

God is not a man, that he should lie. He is not a human, that he should change his mind. Has he ever spoken and failed to act? Has he ever promised and not carried it through? (NLT)

God would never change because God is not a man, that He should lie or change his mind. . . . .

  • What He said He will do it,
  • What He has spoken He will make it happen,
  • What He has promised He will make it through.

2M.3   If God declared that He will never change in the Old Testament times, was there a possibility that God change during the New Testament times?

In James 1:17, this is written:

Every good gift and perfect present comes from God, the Creator of heavenly lights, who does not change (James 1:17, TEV)

The same verse in another version of the Bible:

Every gift which is good, and every perfect boon, is from above, and comes down from the Father, who is the source of all Light. In Him there is no variation nor the slightest suggestion of change. (James 1:17, Weymouth's New Testament)

Apostle James categorically declared that God does not change. He said, in God there is no variation nor the slightest suggestion of change. Therefore, it is without doubt that God did not change during the New Testament times.

2M.4   In what way did God declare that He never changed to a man?

In Hosea 11:9, this is written:

I will not execute the fierceness of My anger; I will not again destroy Ephraim. For I am God, and not man, the Holy One in your midst; and I will not come with terror. (Hosea 11:9, NKJV)

God emphatically said, "For I am God, and not man".  God's declaration that "He is God and not a man" undoubtedly proves that God is always God and never a man. Thus when God declared "I never change" we can be sure that He is always God and not a man.

2M.5   On the contrary, did God categorically declare that "a man is not a god", eliminating the possibility that man can become a god?

In Ezekiel 28:2, this is written:

"Son of man, say to the prince of Tyre, `Thus says the Lord God: "Because your heart is lifted up, and you say, `I am a god, I sit in the seat of gods, in the midst of the seas,' yet you are a man, and not a god, though you set your heart as the heart of a god  (Ezekiel 28:2, NKJV)

God firmly said to the son of man, "yet you are a man, and not a god though you set your heart as the heart of a god".  God's declaration eliminates the possibility that man can become a god, even though deep in his heart he would like to be a god.

____________

Without any doubt, God's declarations effectively eliminate the possibility that God will become a man or god-man, because it is God's will that He will never change. What God has declared He will do it. What God has spoken He will make it happen. What God has promised He will make it through. For God is not a man, that he should lie. God is not human, that he should change his mind. The belief that God became a Man or God-man is a very popular today, but it does not necessarily mean that it is the truth written in the Holy Scriptures.  The true God is always God and He never change to become a man. Thus, the God of the Patriarch Abraham, the God of Isaac, the God of Jacob; and the God of the Prophets Moses, Isaiah, Malachi and the God of the  Israeli ancestors is the absolutely the same God, as the God of the Lord Jesus Christ, His Apostles and His disciples (Lesson-2L).
