Knowing that "only true God" is
the Father in heaven (Lesson-2J),
who is absolutely and perfectly one (Lesson-2I).
Let us continue our Bible study so we may come to know the Nature, Power and Attributes of the
"only true God" that distinguishes Him from the
gods that are not real or gods who by their very nature could not be gods at all
or simply false gods (Lesson-2G).
God is a Spirit
2K.1
What is the nature of God, according
to the Lord Jesus Christ?
In John
4:24, Jesus said this:
God is a Spirit:
and they that worship him must
worship him in spirit and in truth.' (KJV)
According to the Lord
Jesus Christ, "God is a Spirit".
2K.2
How did the
Lord Jesus Christ explain to His Apostles, what a spirit is?
In Luke 24:39, this is
written:
"See My hands and My feet, that it is I Myself;
touch Me and see, for a spirit does not have flesh
and bones as you see that I have." (NAS)
Jesus explained that
"a spirit does not have flesh and bones", as they can
see and feel He has.
2K.3
How did the Apostles corroborate the fact that God is indeed
a Spirit?
In the
following verses, these are written:
Now unto
the King eternal, immortal, invisible, the
only wise God, be honour and glory for ever and
ever. Amen. (1 Timothy 1:17, KJV)
No
one has seen God at any time. The only begotten
Son, who is in the bosom of the Father, He has
declared Him. (John 1:18, NKJV)
Apostle Paul and
Apostle John declared that . . . .
- God is invisible
- and that no one
has seen God at any time
thus,
corroborating the fact that God is indeed a spirit.
2K.4
If God is a Spirit and therefore invisible, what then, is
the proof that God exist?
In Romans
1:19-20, this is written:
For what
can be known about God is perfectly plain to them,
since God has made it plain to them: ever since
the creation of the world, the invisible existence
of God and his everlasting power have been clearly
seen by the mind's understanding of created things.
And so these people have no excuse:
(Romans 1:19-20, New Jerusalem Bible)
The same
verse in other versions of the bible:
19.
For the truth about God is known to them
instinctively.* God has put this knowledge in
their hearts.
20. From the time the world was created, people
have seen the earth and sky and all that God
made. They can clearly see his invisible
qualities-his eternal power and divine nature.
So they have no excuse whatsoever for not
knowing God. (NLT)
19For that which is known
about God is evident to them and
made plain in their inner
consciousness, because God [Himself]
has shown it to them.
20For
ever since the creation of the world
His invisible nature and attributes,
that is, His eternal power and
divinity, have been made
intelligible and clearly discernible
in and through the things that have
been made (His handiworks). So [men]
are without excuse [altogether
without any defense or
justification], (Amplified Bible)
The proof
of God's existence is perceived through the things that
He created. His invisible existence and His eternal
power and divine nature can be clearly seen by the
mind's understanding of created things. God has
made it plain in their inner consciousness so people
will have no excuse of not knowing Him.
God is Almighty
(Omnipotent)
2K.5
How did God introduce Himself to
Abraham, Jacob and Moses?
In the following verses,
these are written:
When
Abram was ninety-nine years old, the Lord appeared
to Abram and said to him, "I am Almighty God;
walk before Me and be blameless. (Gen.17:1, NKJV)
10.
And God said to him, "Your name is Jacob; your name
shall not be called Jacob anymore, but Israel shall
be your name.'' So He called his name Israel.
11. Also God said to him: "I am God Almighty.
Be fruitful and multiply; a nation and a company of
nations shall proceed from you, and kings shall come
from your body. (Gen.35:10-11, NKJV)
2.
And God spoke to Moses and said to him: "I am the
Lord.
3. "I appeared to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob,
as God Almighty, but by My name, Lord, I was
not known to them. (Exodus 6:2-3, NKJV)
God introduced Himself
as "Almighty God or God Almighty".
2K.6
How did
the people in the Book of Revelation address God?
In the following verses
these are written:
saying: "We give You thanks, O Lord God Almighty,
the One who is and who was and who is to come,
because You have taken Your great power and reigned.
(Revelation 11:1, NKJV)
And
they sing the song of Moses, the servant of God, and
the song of the Lamb, saying: "Great and marvelous
are Your works, Lord God Almighty! Just and
true are Your ways, O King of the saints!
(Revelation 15:3, NKJV)
And I
heard another from the altar saying, "Even so,
Lord God Almighty, true and
righteous are Your
judgments.'' (Revelation 16:7, NKJV)
Then I heard {something}
like the voice of a great multitude and like the
sound of many waters and like the sound of mighty
peals of thunder, saying, "Hallelujah! For
the Lord our God, the Almighty, reigns.
(Revelation 19:6, NAS)
And I
heard, as it were, the voice of a great multitude,
as the sound of many waters and as the sound of
mighty thunderings, saying, "Alleluia! For
the Lord God Omnipotent reigns! (Revelation
19:6, NKJV)
God is addressed as
the "Lord God Almighty".
2K.7
Why is God Almighty?
In Psalms
89:6-8, this is written:
6 No one
in heaven is like you, LORD; none of the heavenly
beings is your equal. 7 You are feared in the council of the holy ones;
they all stand in awe of you.
8 LORD God Almighty, none is as mighty as you; in
all things you are faithful, O LORD. (TEV)
The same
verses in other version of the Bible:
6.
For who in all of heaven can compare with the
Lord?
What mightiest angel is anything like the Lord?
7. The highest angelic powers stand in awe of
God.
He is far more awesome than those who surround
his throne.
8. O Lord God Almighty! Where is there anyone as
mighty as you, Lord? Faithfulness is your very
character. (NLT)
In Ephesians 4:6, this is written:
one God and Father
of all, who is above all, and through all, and in you
all. (Ephesians 4:6, NKJV)
``God will put everything under his feet.''
(When it says ``everything,'' it is clear
that this does not include God, the One who
put everything under Christ's authority.) After God does this,
Christ will put himself
under God's authority (the One who put
everything under Christ). This is the way
that God will be above all things in everything.
(1 Cor.15:27-28, IEB-NT)
God is
Almighty because He is unequaled or incomparable to
anyone, even among all the heavenly beings and all those
in the council of the holy ones and those around Him.
God is Almighty because no one is as mighty as Him. God
is Almighty because He
is above all things in everything, even above Christ
Jesus who is under God's authority.
God is the Creator of all things
2K.8
Aside from being a Spirit and
Almighty, how else did Apostle Paul describe the only one
God, the Father
In the
following verses, these are written:
But we
know that there is only one God, the Father, who
created everything, and we exist for him. And
there is only one Lord, Jesus Christ, through whom
God made everything and through whom we have been
given life. (1 Corinthians 8:6, NLT)
and to
make all people see what is the fellowship of the
mystery, which from the beginning of the ages has
been hidden in God who created all things
through Jesus Christ; (Ephesians 3:9, NKJV)
The only one God, the
Father
- who created
everything
- who created all
things
Thus, the
"Only One God, the Father is the Creator of all things.
2K.9 What
are some of the wonderful things created by God, through His
power and intelligence, thus proving He existence?
1:
The heavens and the firmament.
THE HEAVENS
are telling the glory of God; and the firmament
proclaims his handiwork.
Day to day pours forth speech, and night to night
declares knowledge.
There is no speech, nor are there words; their voice
is not heard;
yet their voice goes out through all the earth, and
their words to the end of the world. In them he has
set a tent for the sun,
(Psalms 19:1-4, RSV)
2:
The Moon and the Stars.
When I look at thy heavens,
the work of thy fingers, the moon and the stars
which thou hast established; (Psalns 8:3, RSV)
3:
The earth which man inhabits.
For
thus says the Lord, who created the heavens (he is
God!), who formed the earth and made it (he
established it; he did not create it a chaos, he
formed it to be inhabited!): "I am the Lord, and
there is no other. (Isaiah 45:18, RSV)
I
have made the earth, and created man on it. It was I
My hands that stretched out the heavens, and all
their host I have commanded.
(Isaiah 45:12,
NKJV)
Thus
says God the Lord, Who created the heavens and
stretched them out, Who spread forth the earth and
that which comes from it, Who gives breath to the
people on it, and spirit to those who walk on it:
(Isaiah 42:5, NKJV)
4:
The birds, the animals, and the creatures of the sea.
"But ask the animals, and they will teach you, or
the birds of the air, and they will tell you;
or speak to the earth, and it will teach you,
or let the fish of the sea inform you.
Which of all these does not know that the hand of
the LORD has done this?
In his hand is the life of every creature and the
breath of all mankind. (Job 12:7-10, NIV)
God is Eternal, Immortal and
Invisible
2K.10
What are the other attributes of
God?
In the following verses,
these are written:
Now
to the King eternal, immortal, invisible, to
God who alone is wise, be honor and glory forever
and ever. Amen. (1 Timothy 1:17, NKJV)
God is eternal
Before
the mountains were brought forth, Or ever You had
formed the earth and the world, Even from
everlasting to everlasting, You are God. (Ps.
90:20, NKJV)
The same
verse in another version of the Bible:
Before the mountains were created, before you
made the earth and the world, you are God,
without beginning or end. (NLT)
God is immortal
and exchanged the glory of the immortal
God for images resembling mortal man or birds or animals or
reptiles. (RSV)
The same verse in another version of the
Bible?
They exchanged the glory of an
undying God for something else--idols that look
like men, birds, animals with four feet, or reptiles. All
these die. (IE-NT)
God is invisible
No one has seen God at any time.
The only begotten Son, who is in the bosom of the Father, He
has declared Him. (John 1:18, NKJV)
The
"only true God" is . . . . .
- eternal -
from everlasting to everlasting or without beginning or end.
- Immortal - undying not subject to death
- Invisible - No one has seen God at
anytime.
God knows everything (Omniscient)
In the following verses these
are written:
even
if our hearts condemn us. For God is greater than
our hearts, and he knows everything. (1 John
3:20, NLT)
Great is our Lord, and mighty in power;
His understanding is infinite.
(Psalms 147:5, NKJV)
1. O LORD, You have searched me and known me.
2. You know my sitting down and my rising up; You
understand my thought afar off.
3. You comprehend my path and my lying down, And are
acquainted with all my ways.
4. For there is not a word on my tongue, But behold,
O Lord, You know it altogether.
5. You have hedged me behind and before, And laid
Your hand upon me.
6. Such knowledge is too wonderful for me; It is
high, I cannot attain it. (Psalms 139:1-6, NKJV)
My frame was not
hidden from You, When I was made in secret, And
skillfully wrought in the lowest parts of the earth. Your eyes saw my substance, being yet unformed.
And in Your book they all were written, The days
fashioned for me, When as yet there were none of
them. (Ps 139:15-16, NKJV)
God knows everything. His
understanding is infinite. He understand our thoughts.
God is everywhere
(Omnipresent)
In the following
verses these are written:
Am
I a God who is only in one place?" asks the Lord. "Do
they think I cannot see what they are doing?
24. Can anyone hide from me?
Am I
not everywhere in all the heavens and earth?" asks the
Lord. (Jer 23: 23-24, NLT)
Where can I go from
Your Spirit? Or where can I flee from Your presence?
If I ascend into heaven, You are there; If I make
my bed in hell, behold, You are there. If I take the wings of the morning, And dwell in
the uttermost parts of the sea, Even there Your hand shall lead me, And Your
right hand shall hold me. (Ps 139:7-10, NKJV)
Can anyone hide himself in
secret places, so I shall not see him?'' says
the Lord; "do I not fill heaven and earth?'' says the
Lord. (Jeremiah 23:24, NKJV)
And there is no creature
hidden from His sight, but all things are naked and open
to the eyes of Him to whom we must give account.
(Hebrews 4:13, NKJV)
God is everywhere in all the
heavens and earth.
