Having studied that the
Great
Deception about Jesus had
come, one must now be aware that there is indeed a doctrine
of "another Jesus" that is being preached among professing
Christians today.
Let us
continue the study of the scriptures so we may come to know whom
to believe and what to believe so we will not be misled or
tricked to believe "another Jesus" that will lead us to
destruction and ruin our chances of gaining salvation and
eternal life.
Who are those who know the "true Jesus"
3F.1 Who, according to the
Lord Jesus Christ, are the people who really know Him?
In John 10:14, Jesus
explained thus:
"I
am the good shepherd; and I know My sheep, and am
known by My own. (NKJV)
Jesus said: "I
am known by my own". Jesus as the good shepherd
knows His sheep and He is known by His own sheep.
3F.2
How can we be sure that His sheep
really know Him?
In
John 10:27, this is written:
"My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and
they follow Me. (NKJV)
Jesus said:
"When My sheep here my voice, they follow me"
Thus, they really know Jesus, they recognize His voice
and they follow His commands.
3F.3
Where can we find the sheep of Christ,
those who really know Him?
In John 10:16, this is
written:
"And other sheep I have which are not of this fold;
them also I must bring, and they will hear My voice;
and there will be one flock and one shepherd.
(John 10:16, NKJV)
The sheep of Jesus
Christ can be easily identified because they belong to
one flock.
Which is the flock of Christ?
"Take heed therefore to
yourselves and to all the flock over which the
Holy Spirit has appointed you overseers, to feed
the Church of Christ which he has purchased with
his Blood." Acts 20:28, Lamsa Bible)
The flock of
Christ is the "Church of Christ", the church he
founded in Jerusalem in the first century of the
Christian era (Matthew 16:18).
Thus, the sheep of
Christ who belong to His flock are the members of
the "Church of Christ"*.
Church of Christ in
English is
translated in
German as "Kirche Cristi"; in French as "Eglise
du Christ"; in Italian as "Chiesa di Cristo";
in Spanish as "Iglesia de Cristo"; and in Tagalog as
"Iglesia ni Cristo.
The
testimony of those who know the "true Jesus"
3F.4
Who are the sheep of Christ or
members of the Church founded by Christ?
In John 17:20, Jesus said
this when He prayed to the Father in heaven:
"I am
praying not only for these disciples but also for
all who will ever believe in me because of their
testimony. (NLT)
The same
verse in another version of the Bible:
I
pray not only for these but also for those who
through their teaching will come to believe in
me. (NJB)
The sheep of Christ
are the disciples of Christ. They are His Apostles and
disciples or the members Church of Christ in the first
century of the Christian era. They are the ones who have
the testimony of who is the true Jesus.
3f.5
Why are the testimonies of Christ's
Apostles and disciples very important?
In the preceding verse the
Lord Jesus clearly stated that through their
(His Apostles and disciples),
teachings or because of their testimonies other people will
come to believe in Him. Thus, to know the true Christ Jesus,
one must rely on the testimonies or teachings of the
Apostles.
3F.6 How will the
Christ's Apostles and disciples, who really knew the
true Jesus,
impart their knowledge of the true Jesus to other people?
In John
20:30-31, these are written:
Why
This Gospel Was Written
30. Therefore many other signs Jesus also performed
in the presence of the disciples, which are not
written in this book;
31. but these have been written so that you may
believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God;
and that believing you may have life in His name.
(New American Standard)
Christ's
Apostles and disciples wrote their testimony about the
"true Jesus", so other people will come to know that
the "true Jesus" is
the Christ, the Son of God", and by believing, people
may have eternal life in Christ's name. This is the
very reason why the Gospel was written.
3F.7
Where
can we find the writings of Christ's Apostles and disciples
about the "true Jesus"?
and
that from childhood you have known the Holy
Scriptures, which are able to make you wise for
salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus.
(2 Timothy 3:15, NKJV)
The
writings of Christ's Apostles and disciples are in the
Holy Scriptures or the Holy Bible. Thus, studying what
they have written about Christ Jesus in the Bible will
make people wise for salvation through faith in Him.
Who then is the "true
Jesus"
3F.8
How did the Apostle Paul distinguish the "true Jesus" from
"another Jesus"?
As
previously explained in previous lesson,
the verse 2 Corinthians 11:3-4 is worth repeating, this
is written:
With a
clever trick the snake fooled Eve. I'm afraid that
your minds might be polluted, too.
You might
leave the simplicity and purity which is in
Christ. Someone might come preaching about another
Jesus who is different from the Jesus we preached to
you. You welcome a different kind of spirit that
you did not receive . How can you put up so easily
with a gospel that is different from the first one
you accepted? (International English NT)
Apostle
Paul comparatively explained it this way:
- The meaning of "another
Jesus" was made clear by Apostle Paul as the Jesus that
is different from the one preached by the Apostles to
the early Christians.
- It therefore follows that
the "true Jesus" is the Jesus that was preached by the
Apostles and their
testimonies about Him are now written in the
books and letters of the New Testament of the Holy
Bible.
_______________
Christ is the good Shepherd
and He is well known by His sheep. They are the Apostles and
disciples who are members of the Church He founded in
Jerusalem in the first century. They are the ones who have
the testimony of the true Jesus and their testimonies are
written in the New Testament of the Holy Bible.
The Great Deception had
indeed come, as proven by the existence of various doctrines
of "another Jesus" that are being preached among Christians
today. It is therefore very important to strictly limit the
study to what is written in the Holy Bible, since the
testimonies of Christ's Apostles and disciples about the
"true Jesus" are clearly written in the Scriptures. This is
to make sure that no one will be deceived to leave the
simplicity and purity that is in Christ Jesus, nor misled or
tricked to believe another Jesus who is different from the
one preached by the Apostles.
